COMPILING A RECORDS RETENTION AND DISPOSAL AUTHORITY

Aims:

This course will provide participants with the background knowledge and skills required to confidently compile and implement a records retention and disposal authority within an organisation. Participants will be given several opportunities throughout the course to apply the knowledge gained via useful and practical activities and exercises.


Outcomes:

By the end of this training session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the components of a retention and disposal authority.
  • Define and understand the concept of 'appraisal'.
  • Outline the benefits associated with using and implementing a retention and disposal authority.
  • Identify the recordkeeping legislative framework.
  • Identify the methodology used to compile a Functional Records Retention and Disposal Authority and be able to;
    • Analyse the functions of an organisation;
    • Identify and formulate record classes;
    • Determine retention periods and disposal actions.
  • Implement a records retention and disposal authority within an organisation.
  • Outline steps involved in reviewing an organisation's retention and disposal authority.
