USING A THESAURUS FOR RECORDS TITLING & INDEXING

Aims:

This course aims to provide participants with the knowledge required to identify the structure and components of a records management thesaurus, and classify records using this thesaurus. There will be a number of opportunities to apply the knowledge learnt through interactive activities and exercises.


Outcomes:

By the end of the training session, participants will be able to:

  • Outline the benefits of controlled vocabulary.
  • Identify the structure and components of a best practice records thesaurus.
  • Select appropriate thesaurus terms (functions, activity descriptors and subject descriptors) to title records.
  • Identify and select appropriate free text terms to further define/distinguish record titles.

Participants are provided with a course booklet and additional handouts.
