GENERIC CLASSIFICATION SCHEME
SSA is launching a new generic records classification scheme (covering administrative records) which we believe meets the key attributes required of a good classification scheme, i.e. it should be:
- simple, intuitive and user-friendly;
- robust, e.g. to withstand the impact of changes in organisation structure;
- based on business functions and processes;
- sufficiently flexible to provide coverage for all common administrative records;
- comprised of the minimum number of classification levels necessary;
- able to be maintained with minimal administration effort.
By nature, the classification scheme is a broad ‘high level’ hierarchical structure, which means that it can not only be used within your organisation’s EDRMS, but extended as a classification ‘model’ that can be applied to any business system where there is a need to capture and manage corporate information (e.g. specific-purpose business systems, network drives, websites, intranet, etc.).
The records classification scheme is complemented by a comprehensive index to assist users in the determination of coverage for typical ‘topics’ or ‘types’ of administrative records that may be created or received by an organisation.
The classification scheme can be acquired and used ‘as is’, or tailored further (by SSA or your organisation) to align with organisational preferred terminology, or incorporate more specific classifications.
